National Cross Country success for Connacht athletes
Connacht win three individual medals
Day two of the National Cross Country Championships was a huge success for Connacht athletes. Mayo’s Evan McCormack took gold in the men’s under-20 8k race, while Cillian Ó Súilleabháin of Galway claimed the silver medal.
Síofra Cléirigh of Sligo was the third Connacht athlete to win an individual medal, taking silver in the women’s under-20 5k race.
Team success for Mayo and Roscommon
There was also team success for Connacht counties, with the Mayo men’s under-20 team taking the bronze medal, and the Roscommon women’s under-19 team winning the silver medal.
Over 3,500 athletes competed in the event over two days.
Overall, it was a great day for cross-country running in Connacht, with athletes from the province performing very well against the best in the country.
