Worried business owner offered to buy car park from council amid fears over future of town centre
A business owner has offered to buy a car park from the council amid fears over the future of a town centre.
John Smith, who owns a shop in the town centre, said he is worried about the impact that the loss of the car park would have on businesses in the area.
The car park is due to close in the next few months to make way for a new development.
Smith said: "I am very concerned about the impact that the loss of the car park will have on businesses in the town centre."
"We rely on the car park for our customers, and without it, we will lose a lot of trade."
Smith has written to the council to offer to buy the car park and keep it open.
He said: "I am willing to pay a fair price for the car park, and I am confident that I can keep it open and running profitably."
"I hope that the council will consider my offer and work with me to keep the car park open."
The council said it is considering Smith's offer.
A spokesperson for the council said: "We are aware of Mr. Smith's offer to buy the car park, and we are considering it."
"We will make a decision on the future of the car park in the coming weeks."
