Man dies after being hit by car on A2 motorway

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a collision on the A2 motorway.

The incident happened on the A2 near Gravesend, Kent, at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, March 7.

A man in his 40s was working on the hard shoulder when he was hit by a car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.

The A2 was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of a worker on the A2 last night.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are working with the police to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances leading up to it.

"The safety of our workforce is our top priority and we will do everything we can to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future."
