Virologist Streeck Compares Unvaccinated People to Jews
Outcry over Dehumanizing Remarks
German Virologist Hendrik Streeck has sparked outrage after comparing unvaccinated people to Jews during the Holocaust.
In an interview with the German newspaper "Die Welt," Streeck said that the unvaccinated are "excluded from society" and are being "demonized" in a similar way to how Jews were treated during the Holocaust.
Streeck's comments have been widely condemned by Jewish groups and politicians. The president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, said that Streeck's comparison was "unacceptable" and "outrageous."
"The comparison of the situation of unvaccinated people with the persecution of Jews during the Nazi era is an unspeakable trivialization of the Holocaust," Schuster said.
Streeck has since apologized for his comments, but the damage has been done. His remarks have raised concerns about the growing polarization over the issue of vaccination.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the spread of misinformation about vaccines is a major threat to public health. The WHO has called on social media companies to do more to combat the spread of false information about vaccines.
In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that vaccines are safe and effective and that they are the best way to protect people from COVID-19.
The CDC has also said that there is no link between vaccines and autism.
