Emergency services were called to the River Thames in Reading, Berkshire, on Saturday afternoon after reports of a person in the water.

The body of a man was recovered from the river a short time later.

The man has been identified as Richard 'Ricky' Phillips, 52, from Reading.

Mr Phillips' family said in a statement: "Ricky was a legend. He made everyone laugh and was always up for a good time. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

Mr Phillips was a well-known figure in the Reading sports community.

He was a season ticket holder at Reading FC and was also a member of the Reading Racers speedway team.

Mr Phillips' death has shocked and saddened the local community.

Reading FC said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ricky Phillips.

"Ricky was a passionate Reading FC fan and a familiar face at our matches.
