Structure fire in Scotland: Six casualties

Six people, including four children, have been taken to hospital following a large house fire in Scotland.

Emergency services were called to the property in the town of Dunfermline, Fife, at around 7pm on New Year's Eve.

The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) said the fire involved the ground and first floor of a mid-terraced house.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued four children and two adults from the property.

The casualties were taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service. Their condition is described as stable.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

SFRS Area Commander Bruce Farquharson said: "This was a very serious incident and our thoughts are with those who have been affected.

"Crews worked extremely hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and rescue the casualties."

"We would like to thank our partners in the emergency services for their assistance."

The SFRS has issued a reminder about the importance of fire safety in the home.
