Shaun Evans Was Put Off By Fred West Portrayal in Until I Kill You

Shaun Evans has revealed that he was not able to watch the Fred West drama Until I Kill You because of "stomach-churning" scenes.

The Endeavour actor, who played serial killer Colin Sutton in the show about Fred and Rosemary West, said he was only able to see two hours of the show because it was so difficult. Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "You know, I couldn't actually watch it. Well, I could watch the first two hours. Because I know it's a four-part thing, I kind of know what the storyline is, but some of the scenes are so stomach-churning, I found it really hard to watch. I watched about two hours and I had to turn it off 'cause I found it a bit too stomach-churning, to be honest with you."

Evans also said that he felt that he had to do justice to Sutton's victims by giving a realistic portrayal of him. "The victims and the families of the victims, they're the constant thought", Evans said. "And you just want them to be proud of what you're doing. You want to do it justice and you want to help preserve the memory of their loved ones, even though it's a very dark and bleak story."

Until I Kill You is a four-part drama about the serial killings of Fred and Rosemary West, and their eventual capture and trial. The show, which stars Luke Allen-Gale as Fred West, has been praised for its accurate portrayal of events and its sensitive handling of the victims' families.

Evans, who is best known for his role as Morse in the Endeavour prequel series, said that he was drawn to the role of Sutton because he was intrigued by his character. "I thought it was a really interesting character to play, because he's not someone who you can easily understand or sympathize with", Evans said of Sutton. "He's someone who is very charming and charismatic, but he's also capable of terrible things and he really enjoyed what he was doing. So, to try and understand that is a challenge and it's an interesting thing to portray."
