Robert De Niro Crashes NFL Tailgate Ahead of Eagles Game to Lobby for Kamala Harris
The Hollywood legend made a surprise appearance at Linc parking lot to rally support for the Democratic vice presidential candidate.
Robert De Niro took a break from his acting career Sunday to stump for Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the parking lot of Lincoln Financial Field before the Eagles game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Hollywood legend and vocal critic of President Donald Trump joined elected officials, labor union leaders and other Harris supporters at a tailgate party organized by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
De Niro's appearance was a surprise to many of the several hundred people who attended the tailgate party. He took the stage and spoke for about 10 minutes, urging people to vote for Harris and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the November election.
“We need Kamala Harris as our next vice president,” De Niro said. “She's a strong, smart, and experienced leader who will fight for working families."
De Niro also criticized Trump, calling him a "dangerous" and "unfit" president. He said that Trump is "dividing our country" and "making us a laughingstock to the world."
"We need to get rid of him," De Niro said. "We need to vote him out of office. And we need to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to lead our country."
De Niro's appearance was well-received by the crowd. Many people chanted his name and took pictures with him.
"It was great to see Robert De Niro here," said John Dougherty, the business manager of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. "He's a real star, and he's using his voice to support working families. We need more people like him in politics."
Harris is scheduled to campaign in Philadelphia on Monday. She will be joined by Biden at a rally at the Liacouras Center on Temple University's campus.
