Rafael Nadal's Davis Cup rival admits Spain victory 'would be fantastic'
Canada's Denis Shapovalov says it would be an incredible upset if Canada were to defeat Spain in the Davis Cup.
Spain is the overwhelming favorite in the tie, with Nadal as the world number two and Roberto Bautista Agut as the world number 10. Canada's top-ranked player is Shapovalov, who is ranked 22nd in the world.
Despite the odds being stacked against them, Shapovalov said he and his teammates are confident they can pull off an upset.
"It would be fantastic," Shapovalov said. "It would be one of the biggest wins in Canadian tennis history. We know it's going to be tough, but we're going to give it our all."
Nadal is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, and he will be a tough opponent for Shapovalov.
But Shapovalov said he is not intimidated by Nadal's record.
"I'm excited to play against him," Shapovalov said. "He's one of the best players in the world, and it's going to be a great challenge."
The Davis Cup is a prestigious team competition, and Shapovalov said it would be a dream to win the title.
"It would be amazing," Shapovalov said. "It's one of the most prestigious trophies in tennis, and it would be an incredible feeling to win it."
