Paralympics: Gold eludes Japan runner Kenya Karasawa but game not over

Karasawa was beaten to gold in the T12 400m

Three more medals for Japan on busy morning of athletics

Kenya Karasawa was narrowly beaten to gold in the men's T12 400m at the Paralympics on Wednesday (Sept 1), but there was still plenty to celebrate for Japan on a busy morning of athletics.

The 22-year-old, who won bronze in the event in Rio five years ago, ran a season's best of 48.97 seconds but had to settle for silver behind Algeria's Skander Djamil Athmani, who set a world record of 47.58.

Karasawa's time was also inside the previous world record.

The Japanese team still had plenty to celebrate, however, with three more medals coming on a busy morning of athletics at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium.

Japan now has a total of 15 medals in athletics at the Paralympics, including three golds.

Competition continues on Thursday with a number of finals scheduled, including the men's T47 1500m, which features world record holder Hiroki Nishida.
