India is scheduled to host the Cricket World Cup in October and November 2023
Pakistan lost the first One Day International (ODI) match against Australia by 88 runs at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Australia posted a challenging total of 313 for 7 thanks to half-centuries from David Warner (56), Steve Smith (59) and Marnus Labuschagne (52).
In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 225 in 45.4 overs, with only Shan Masood (59) and Babar Azam (51) making significant contributions.
The defeat is a setback for Pakistan, who are scheduled to host the Cricket World Cup in October and November 2023.
It is also a blow to their hopes of qualifying directly for the tournament, as they are currently ranked eighth in the ICC ODI rankings.
Australia, on the other hand, will be buoyed by the victory, as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.
They are currently ranked second in the ODI rankings, behind New Zealand.
The second ODI between Pakistan and Australia will be played in Sydney on Thursday.
