Manchester United hold Arsenal to a goalless draw in WSL match to remain unbeaten
Red Devils secure a point against the Gunners
Manchester United extended their unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League to four matches after playing out a goalless draw with Arsenal at Meadow Park on Saturday afternoon.
Despite an end-to-end encounter, the hosts failed to find a breakthrough and had to settle for their third consecutive draw, while Arsenal were unable to make it three wins in a row after recording back-to-back victories in the league.
Both teams created several good chances to win the game, but neither side could find the decisive goal.
Toone makes her return
Alessia Russo started upfront for the hosts, with Ella Toone making her first appearance since September following an ankle injury.
The England international had a great chance to mark her return with a goal in the second half, but she was denied by a good save from Manuela Zinsberger.
Arsenal had their chances too and came close to snatching all three points late on, but substitute Caitlin Foord was unfortunate to see her effort well saved by Mary Earps.
United stay unbeaten
Manchester United currently sit fifth in the WSL standings, while Arsenal are one point behind in sixth place.
The Red Devils will now prepare for a home match against Leicester City next Sunday, while the Gunners welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Meadow Park a day later.
