Jon Montgomery launches moustache into outer space for Movember
The Canadian Olympic skeleton champion is sending his iconic facial hair into the stratosphere to raise awareness for men's health.
Montgomery, who won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, is auctioning off the right to send his moustache into space. The auction is part of Movember, a global charity that raises funds for men's health initiatives, including prostate cancer research and mental health support.
The winning bidder will have their name etched on a plaque that will be attached to the moustache, which will then be sent into space on a high-altitude balloon. The balloon will reach an altitude of up to 100,000 feet, providing stunning views of Earth and the vastness of space.
Montgomery says he was inspired to launch his moustache into space after seeing a video of a group of astronauts shaving their beards in orbit. "I thought it would be a fun and unique way to raise awareness for Movember," he says. "And it's a great way to show that even in the face of adversity, we can still have a sense of humour."
The auction is open now and will close on November 30th. The winning bidder will be announced on December 1st. To learn more about the auction and to place a bid, visit the Movember website.
