James Martin reveals unseen struggle on his ITV show due to hidden health battle
James Martin reveals secret health battle is 'a nightmare'
James Martin has lifted the lid on a hidden health battle that he's been battling for years.
The celebrity chef, 50, admitted that he suffers from a condition that causes him to sweat excessively, which has made filming his ITV show, Saturday Morning, a nightmare.
Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, James said: "It's a nightmare. I've had it [hyperhidrosis] for years and I've tried everything."
James, who was born in Malton, North Yorkshire, said that he's tried Botox injections, which paralyse the nerves that signal the sweat glands to reduce sweating, but despite spending thousands of pounds on the procedure, it hasn't worked for him.
He added: "I've spent thousands on Botox thinking that's going to solve the problem but it doesn't."
Martin's condition doesn't affect his work
Despite his condition, James said that it doesn't affect his work too much, as he's able to manage it with the help of medication and clothing.
- Antiperspirants: These products work by blocking the sweat glands, preventing sweat from reaching the surface of the skin.
- Botox injections: These injections work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that control sweating.
- Iontophoresis: This treatment uses a mild electrical current to temporarily block the sweat glands.
- Microwave thermolysis: This treatment uses microwaves to destroy the sweat glands.
He said: "I take medication for it and I wear the right clothes and I just get on with it.
"It's a bit of a nightmare, but it's not the end of the world."
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, is a condition that causes a person to sweat excessively, even when they're not exercising or in a hot environment.
The condition can be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, medical conditions, and certain medications.
Symptoms of hyperhidrosis can include:
- Excessive sweating on the hands, feet, underarms, or face
- Sweat that is visible through clothing
- A feeling of dampness or clamminess
- Difficulty gripping objects

Hyperhidrosis can be a very challenging condition to live with, but there are a number of treatments available that can help to reduce sweating.
If you think you may have hyperhidrosis, it's important to see a doctor to discuss your symptoms and treatment options.
