Flood Waters Kill 13 in Texas

Texas has seen heavy rainfall since Thursday, causing a flash flood on Sunday. By Monday, 13 people had been reported dead.

On Sunday, the National Weather Service issued numerous flash flood warnings for central Texas, including Travis, Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, and Comal counties.

Texas Governor Declares Disaster

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster for seven counties: Hays, Caldwell, Travis, Guadalupe, Comal, Bastrop, and Lee counties.

Flash Flood Causes Road Closures

The heavy rains have flooded many roads, including Interstate 35, which has been closed for much of its length in Texas. The highway was expected to remain closed through Monday.

Other closed roads include US 183 and State Highway 71. The closures are expected to continue for multiple days while the flood waters recede and debris is cleared.

Flooding Predicted to Worsen

The National Weather Service has predicted that the flooding will worsen in the coming days. The service has issued flash flood watches for much of Texas, including Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.

Residents in these areas are urged to take precautions and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Flash floods can be dangerous and deadly. If you are caught in a flash flood, the National Weather Service recommends taking the following steps:

• Do not walk through flood waters.
