Dundee Boss Tony Docherty Provides Update after Second Star Falls Ill in Five-Week Period
Docherty Hopes No More Players Fall Victim to Illness
Dundee boss Tony Docherty has given an update after a second player has fallen ill in the space of five weeks, stating that it has been unsettling.
The Dens Park boss saw defender Lee Ashcroft miss Dundee's 3-0 win against Dumbarton at the weekend, with the right-back suffering with illness.
Ashcroft Took Ill on Saturday
Ashcroft took ill on Saturday morning and was not able to feature in the matchday squad.
It comes after goalkeeper Adam Legzdins was also struck down by illness in the build-up to the Premier Sports Cup match with Queen of the South.
The Latvian international missed the 2-1 defeat at Palmerston and is yet to feature for Dundee this season.
Docherty Concerned Over Illness
Docherty admits it is concerning to see players being struck down by illness, especially so early in the season.
However, the Dark Blues boss is hopeful that Ashcroft will be the last of his players to fall victim to illness.
He said: "We just need to ensure that no more players get this illness. Hopefully, Ashcroft is the last of them."
"It is not nice to see any of your players off with an illness, especially so early in the season."
"Hopefully, Ashcroft is the last of them and we can get everyone back on the training pitch and back available for selection."
Dundee travel to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup on Tuesday before a trip to Cove Rangers in the league on Saturday.
