Dozens Left Without Power After Trash Truck Collides With Electric Wires
Car Crashes Into House In Stratmoor Hills
A trash truck crashed into electric wires in the Stratmoor Hills area on Thursday, leaving dozens of residents without power, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. Officer Adam Kraus said the crash occurred at the intersection of South Chelton Road and Delmonico Drive at approximately 11:30 a.m. The driver of the trash truck was uninjured, but the impact of the crash knocked down several power lines, leaving approximately 50 homes without power.
Crews from Colorado Springs Utilities are on scene working to repair the damage. Kraus said it is unclear how long it will take to restore power, but urged residents to prepare for an extended outage.
The crash also caused significant damage to the house at the intersection. The impact of the crash caused the house to shift on its foundation, and the front windows were shattered. The residents of the house were not home at the time of the crash, but they have since returned and are working with their insurance company to assess the damage.
Power Outages Affect Traffic
The power outages have also affected traffic in the area. The intersection of South Chelton Road and Delmonico Drive is closed, and traffic is being diverted to other routes. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
