Ben Stokes: Man arrested after burglary at cricketer's County Durham home
Burglary at Ben Stokes' County Durham home
A man has been arrested after a burglary at the County Durham home of England cricketer Ben Stokes.
The incident happened at around 10pm on Tuesday, December 13, when a man broke into Stokes' house in the village of Castle Eden.
Durham Constabulary said the man was arrested a short time later and is currently in custody.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm that a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at a property in Castle Eden.
"He remains in police custody at this time and inquiries are ongoing."
Stokes was not at home at the time of the burglary, but his wife Clare was.
She is said to have been left "shaken" by the incident.
A source close to the family said: "Clare is understandably shaken by what happened.
"She was home alone at the time and was terrified when she heard someone breaking in.
"Thankfully, she was not physically harmed, but she is obviously very shaken up."
The burglary is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents at the homes of sports stars in recent months.
In October, the home of Manchester United footballer Paul Pogba was burgled while he was playing in a Champions League match.
And in November, the home of former England footballer Frank Lampard was targeted by burglars while he was away on holiday.
The burglaries have raised concerns about the security of sports stars' homes and the need for them to take extra precautions to protect their families and property.
