A ‘rapturous riot of flavour’: Nigella Lawson hails Greggs as she stars in bakery’s first Christmas advert
Greggs’ first Christmas advert, starring Nigella Lawson, has been hailed as a triumph by the television critic Lucy Mangan, who said that it offered a ‘rapturous riot of flavour’.
“It's the first Christmas advert of the year and of course it's for Greggs,” Mangan wrote in The Guardian. “And of course it's wonderful. It is ridiculous, over-the-top but also somehow believable. I mean, who wouldn't want to celebrate Christmas morning with a Greggs Festive Bake?”
The advert, which was released on Monday, features Lawson tucking into a range of Greggs’ festive treats, including the Festive Bake, the Christmas Dinner Soup and the Pigs in Blankets Roll. Lawson is seen enjoying the food with her family and friends, and she even gets up and dances around the kitchen.
The advert has been a hit with viewers, with many people taking to social media to praise it. “This is the best Christmas advert I've seen in years,” one person wrote on Twitter. “It's so funny and festive.”
Another person wrote: “I love Nigella Lawson and I love Greggs, so this advert is perfect for me. It's made me so hungry for Christmas dinner.”
The advert is part of Greggs’ wider Christmas marketing campaign, which also includes a range of festive products and promotions. The bakery chain is hoping to capitalize on the growing popularity of Christmas food and drink, which is now a major part of the UK retail market.
